What areas do you serve?

Our Toronto locations provide service from Etobicoke to west Scarborough. Our service area spans from Lake Ontario to Highway 401, and from Highway 427 in the west to Midland Avenue in the east.

How much will your service cost?

We price our services based on your unique cleaning requirements, the number of rooms in your home, number of residents and pets and other factors that affect the amount of time it takes to clean your home.

During our free in-home consultation, we’ll discuss your cleaning requirements, develop a customized plan, and provide you a price based on your specific needs.

Will all visits cost the same amount?

The first visit usually costs more than future visits. This is because it typically takes additional cleaning time to get a home up to a standard that can be easily maintained with our regular cleaning visits.

The price of the first visit, as well as our regular cleaning fee will be provided to you during the in-home consultation.

How do I pay?

Simply leave a cheque on the kitchen counter before you leave home or pay your maid service team Supervisor directly if you are at home.

Payment by email money transfer, Visa or MasterCard is also accepted.

Do I have to be home for the cleaning?

It's up to you. In our experience, the most efficient and problem-free way is to provide us a key to your home and a guest alarm code if you have a home security system.

A minority of our clients leave us a key in an area outside of their home on their cleaning day (e.g., under a mat or planter), however, we don’t recommend this for security reasons. Other clients choose to provide us their garage door code to access their homes.

If you choose not to give us a key and we cannot enter you home on the scheduled cleaning day, you will be charged a lock-out fee equal to 50% of your regular cleaning fee.

How do I know my key is safe?

Hire A Maid marks all keys with an identification code number -- your address and name are never indicated on the key.

Keys are locked in a key safe that is accessible by only the owner or office manager. At the start of each day, our maids are given only the keys required for that day’s cleaning appointments. At the end of the day, all keys are returned to management and are stored in the key safe until your next cleaning appointment.

What should I do about my home security alarm?

If you have a home alarm, please ensure that your maid service team has access to your home on your scheduled cleaning day. You can do this by either providing us a guest alarm code or by leaving the alarm off on that day. If you choose to provide us a guest alarm code and this code changes, please be sure to inform our office of the new code before the day of your next cleaning appointment in order to avoid being charged a lock-out fee.

Do you guarantee a specific time for my cleaning visit?

We guarantee the day of your cleaning appointment, however, due to our evolving daily team schedules, we are generally unable to provide a specific time for our arrival.

Do you send the same team each visit?

Absolutely! This builds team familiarity with your home cleaning requirements and supports our commitment to provide you consistently high quality service.

What if I need to reschedule a cleaning?

If you need to change your next regularly scheduled cleaning appointment, simply inform our office at least 48 business hours before the cleaning visit. If less than 48 business hours notice is provided, it will be necessary to charge a late cancellation fee equal to 50% of your regular cleaning fee.

For post-renovation cleanings, Hire A Maid will commit 1-2 teams potentially spanning up to 2 days of work (depending on the extent of the cleaning required). In the event that you need to change or cancel a post-renovation cleaning, 5 business days cancellation notice is required to fill the resulting large vacancy. If less than 5 business days cancellation notice is provided for your post-renovation cleaning, a late cancellation charge equal to 50% of the estimated fee will apply.

What do I have to provide?

Nothing! We provide all cleaning supplies and equipment. If you have special cleaning products you want your maid service team to use, please be sure to discuss this with our office in advance since government regulations (“WHMIS” or Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System) require the disclosure of cleaning supply chemical content.

Do I need to do anything before your cleaning service arrives?

To give you the greatest value possible, we ask you to take a few minutes before our visit to put away clothing, toys, and other household or personal items.

We also ask that valuables, collectibles, heirlooms and other precious items be put away before our visit to eliminate any potential for accidents.

What if I need extra work done outside of my regular cleaning plan?

We are always pleased to assist you with your additional cleaning requirements. Simply contact us 48 hours before your next appointment so that we may schedule additional time for your maid service team to complete the extra tasks while they are in your home.

The following are some popular extra tasks that can be included as part of your regular customized cleaning plan, or may be requested by you whenever the need arises:

  • Oven cleaning
  • Refrigerator cleaning
  • Wall washing
  • Inside cabinet cleaning
  • Pre- and post-party clean-up
  • Packing and unpacking assistance
  • Plant watering when you are out of town
  • Fireplace clean-out
  • Sweeping the porch or garage
  • Others not mentioned here – just ask us!

Are you bonded and insured?

Yes, all of our maids are bonded and insured, and our company holds a $2,000,000 general liability insurance policy.

Our maids are employees (not sub-contractors) and are also covered by Workers’ Compensation Insurance. This protects them and you in the event of an injury in your home. (Note: cleaning companies or individuals operating without a valid WSIB Clearance Certificate are putting you at risk of a lawsuit by the injured worker if they are unable to return to work, and this may not be covered by your home insurance policy.)

What if something breaks?

We treat your home as if it were our own. In the rare event of a mishap, Hire A Maid takes responsibility for damage caused by us by either replacing the damaged item or reimbursing you. If appropriate, insurance claims will be filed.

To eliminate any potential for accidents, we ask that valuables, collectibles, heirlooms and other precious items be put away before our visit.

If there are certain precious items in your home not put away or potential perils (e.g., a picture frame that is loosely hanging from the wall), please be sure to bring it to the attention of your maid service team or our office.

Should I tip my maid service team?

Tipping is at your discretion.

What if I am unhappy with the cleaning?

We provide a 100% satisfaction guarantee. If ever you are not completely satisfied with our work, simply let us know within 24 hours and we’ll return to make it right -- at no additional charge.

I have a pet. Is this a problem?

Pets are not a problem and we will gladly work around them. However, for the safety of our maids, aggressive pets will need to be secured during our cleaning.

Can I trust your staff?

We pay our staff better than the industry standard in order to attract and retain the best people – people who treat your home with the care they would show their own. Our maids are carefully screened (including criminal record checks), professionally trained, bonded and insured.

Our maids are also employees (not unsupervised contractors) who have a vested interest in keeping you as a satisfied customer month-after-month and year-after-year.
